In the just-ended season, the defender played 14 matches across the Portuguese League, Europa League and Portuguese Cup, contributing to winning the Portuguese Championship and adding another trophy to his career.
Porto confirmed this Thursday, 21st, the departure of Thiago Silva. With the end of the contractual relationship, the 41-year-old Brazilian defender leaves the Portuguese club and is now free on the market to define his future.
In an official statement, the Portuguese team highlighted the defender’s trajectory in his two spells at the club. The first occurred in 2004, when Thiago Silva played for the Dragões B team at the beginning of his career. Years later, already established in European football and champion of the Champions League, the player returned to Porto for a new stage at Estádio do Dragão.
In the recently concluded season, the defender played 14 matches including Liga Portugal, Europa League and Taça de Portugal, contributing to winning the Portuguese Championship and adding another trophy to his career.
When saying goodbye to the athlete, Porto highlighted the bond built over the years and stated that the club will remain a “home” for the Brazilian.
President André Villas-Boas also published a message in honor of the player, highlighting his leadership on and off the field, as well as his importance in the champion squad.
CHECK OUT THE MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF PORTO IN FULL:
“Thiago Silva is a man of unique stature who returned to FC Porto to continue a cycle of success that began here when he was still young, in training, and which life tried to interrupt in a harsh way, without him ever forgetting the support that the Club provided him at that time.
He returned to FC Porto already established, but always grateful for having learned here to value the importance and dignity of teamwork as pillars of excellence, after establishing himself at top clubs.
Owner of a calm, sporting and human leadership, he was a reference everywhere he played. This season, at FC Porto, he once again showed his size: he was important on the field, decisive in the dressing room and an essential part of winning the 31st title.
With enormous pride and gratitude, we wish you, Thiago, all the best for the path you continue to follow. The doors of FC Porto will always be open for you, because there are stories that last forever.”
