The Attorney General of Justice, Antônio José Campos Moreira, requested on Wednesday (20) the state government information about irregularities identified by the interim management of the judge, president of the Court of Justice.
The claims to have requested data on the approximately 2,500 dismissals of possible ghost employees, audits of contracts valued at R$81 billion and investigations involving Banco Master and Ricardo Magro’s Refit group.
“Given the seriousness of the facts, it is necessary for the MPRJ to obtain documents and all relevant information so that it can carry out a technical-legal assessment and work together in favor of the public interest”, said the Attorney General of Justice in a note.
Moreira also states that, despite the information published in the press, “there was no formal communication to the MP-RJ containing technical documentation relating to internal investigations, audits, precautionary measures, signs of damage to the treasury or identification of those responsible.”
The actions of the Couto management have focused on actions by the administration (), which began to publicly react to information about the audits. The former governor was also the target of a Federal Police operation to investigate the use of state public machinery to facilitate Refit crimes.
Couto has been in charge of the Guanabara Palace since March 24, after Castro’s resignation. He remains in office by decision of the STF (Supreme Federal Court), which has not yet decided how the new buffer governor will be chosen, to complete his term of office by the end of this year.
The determination changed the provision of the state Constitution, since on April 14th the Alerj (Legislative Assembly of Rio de Janeiro) elected the deputy (PL) as president of the Legislature, a position that is ahead of the president of the Court of Justice in the line of succession. Members of the PL claim that the scenario resembles a judicial intervention in the management of Rio de Janeiro.
