Famous comedian Oliver Andrásy (68) for years he participated as an author and presenter in a number of television shows that Slovaks still remember today. One of them was also the show Dream with us and in an interview he admitted that they managed to do a really incredible thing then.
“Once a lady wrote to us that she would like to meet Pope John Paul II. At that time, our friend Fero Mikloško arranged it through Cardinal Tomek in two weeks. If the BBC wanted to arrange it so quickly, it would not have arranged it. The family met the Holy Father at the time when Slovakia dedicated a Christmas tree to the Vatican, so President Michal Kováč was also there,” Andrásy recalled. At that moment, he also said that since he was there, he too wanted to say hello to the Pope.
“I stood at the end of the line and when I came before the Holy Father, Michal Kováč, who knew me because he was also in our shows, said to him in Slovak: ‘That’s our hidden camera’. The pope looked like that, and then the president also understood that he probably doesn’t quite know what a hidden camera is. So he says: “Slovak humor,” to which the Pope caught on: “Ah, humor, humor.” I also have a photo where I shake hands with the Pope and I even have it on film,” he concluded.
Oliver Andrásy was born on November 15, 1957 in Bratislava. As a young man, he said he wanted to be a ship engineer and was very fascinated by the sea. However, after graduating from the Secondary Industrial School of Mechanical Engineering, he did not pursue mechanical engineering any further, but studied journalism at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Comenius University in Bratislava.
From 1983 he worked as an entertainment editor at Slovak Radio, until 1994 he prepared the show Humorikon. Since 1993, he has been a co-owner (now only with Elena Vacvalová) of the HATTRICK production company. As one of the producers, he prepared the program Snívajte s nami for Slovak Television.
He participated in the shows as an author and moderator What the street can do (STV), Aj múdry schybí (VTV, since 1997 Markíza), Dereš (Markíza). He participated in the shows as director and producer It’s worth a try (VTV), Bonzáčik (VTV, later Markíza) and Dve na tri (Markíza).
Andrásy’s shows had a long-term high viewership, which the author attributed to non-stop precise work. As he claimed, he constantly prepared all parts of his shows as honestly as he would have done the first one.
