One person was killed and 18 others were injured on Monday after a truck collided with a train in the Polish village of Garbatka in the Greater Poland Voivodeship in the country’s midwest. TASR informs about this according to the report of the agencies PAP and DPA. “A train heading from the city of Rogoźno to Poznań collided with a lorry at a railway crossing… As a result of the incident, the lorry caught fire and the fire spread to the nearby grassland,” Martin Halasz from the Wielkopolska State Fire Brigade said in a statement.

As he added, the truck did not brake at all before the railroad crossing and hit the side of the approaching train. Several carriages of the train derailed and 18 passengers suffered minor injuries. He added that the only victim of the accident was the truck driver. Minister of Infrastructure Dariusz Klimczak wrote on the X social network that the causes of the accident will be investigated by the State Commission for the Investigation of Railway Accidents (PKBWK), adds the Polish agency. The railway line from Poznań to Pila was closed after the accident.
