President of the Chamber speaks after meeting with Lula to align PEC that establishes reduction in working hours and adoption of the 5 X 2 scale
The president of the Chamber of Deputies, (Republicanos-PB), speaks this Monday (May 25, 2026) after a meeting with the president (PT) about the PEC that establishes the end of the 6 X 1 work schedule. The meeting was held before the official presentation of the text and served to align the points that could be included in the proposal.
Lula advocates that the change be implemented quickly and resists the inclusion of a broad transition period for companies to adapt. Planalto members believe that the text should have as few mitigating measures as possible to reduce the impact of the change.
The proposal under discussion establishes the reduction of weekly working hours and the adoption of the 5 x 2 scale, an issue that has gained strength in Congress and the government in recent months. The expectation among Planalto allies is that the PEC will advance in 2026, although business sectors are pressing for transition rules and flexibility.
