Responsible for imposing the defeat 15 years ago that resulted in River Plate’s relegation to the second division of the Argentine Championship, Belgrano de Córdoba once again toppled the Buenos Aires giant to win this Sunday (24) the Apertura title, the national tournament of the first semester.
In a match played at their home stadium, the Mario Alberto Kempes stadium, Belgrano beat River, 3-2, to triumph for the first time in one of the editions of the Argentine national championship — there is also the Clausura in the second half — since its foundation, in 1905.
Striker Nicolás Fernández was the great hero of the match, scoring the 2-2 equalizer in the 40th minute of the second half, from a penalty, and, just three minutes later, the goal of the turnaround. Leonardo Morales had scored the first for the home team in the first half.
Colidio and Ezequiel Galvan scored the goals for River, Argentina’s biggest champion, with 38 titles, but which has not won since 2023.
