Iran deal will be ‘big and significant’ or no deal, Trump says

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, said this Monday (25) that an eventual peace agreement with Iran will be “big and significant” or there will be no agreement.

“It will be exactly the opposite of the disaster of the JCPOA negotiated by the failed Obama administration, which was a direct and open path for Iran to obtain a nuclear weapon”, added Trump in a publication in Truth Social, referring to the historic nuclear agreement signed with Iran in 2015. “No, I don’t do deals like that”, he concluded.

Trump’s statement came amid growing expectations that the US and Iran are moving closer to an understanding to end the war in the Middle East, with the possible reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, through which around 20% of the world’s oil transits.

The expectation of an agreement brings down oil prices this Monday. At 7:36 am (Brasília time), Brent fell 5.4%, to less than US$95 per barrel.
