The city of Silves is preparing to host, between the 29th and 31st of May, the VIII Mostra de Papas de Milho, an initiative that once again celebrates one of the most emblematic gastronomic traditions of the Algarve, in Praça Al-Muthamid.
With free entry, the event is co-organized by the Silves Parish Council and the Municipality of Silves, with the support of the Caminhos do Meio Association, opening on May 29th, at 7:00 pm.
According to the organization, the exhibition is “a tribute to the traditional and typical flavors of the Algarve”, promoting the preservation of one of the most representative dishes of Algarve popular culture.
Over the three days, more than a dozen taverns will present different versions of corn porridge, combining tradition, creativity and typical flavors of the region.
Gastronomy, crafts and music liven up Silves
In addition to the gastronomic component, the venue will feature displays of crafts, regional sweets, local products, jewelry and other original creations.
The musical entertainment will be another of the highlights of the program, with performances by Dito Viçados, a tribute band to Xutos & Pontapés, from the group Diapasão with the participation of Marante, and the fado singer Andreia Rio.
The event will also give a stage to young artists such as Iris, Katrina, Risko da Velha and Rastah.
The program also features presentations from AGS – Associação de Ginástica de Silves and Àsmove Dance, as well as moments of popular entertainment with Filipe Romão, Irmãos Cabanas, Paulo and Sónia and the Quelfes Ethnographic Group.
DJs and competitions reinforce the show’s entertainment
The organization also highlights the presence of DJs Set by Carox and Deejay Cabrita, responsible for the entertainment on stage 2 during the three days of the event, starting at 6pm.
The “As Melhores Papas de Milho” and “A Tasca do Evento” competitions return in this eighth edition to distinguish the flavors and spaces highlighted in the exhibition, with the winners announced on the 30th and 31st of May.
Silves City Hall and the Parish Council invite “the entire population and visitors to participate in this unmissable gastronomic experience, which promises to celebrate the tradition, flavors and culture of the Algarve”.
