Javier Milei listened to the homily of the Archbishop of Buenos Aires, Jorge García Cuerva, with his gaze focused on the altar of the Metropolitan Cathedral. He did not even flinch when faced with a call that seemed to be directed to the Argentine president. García Cuerva had requested “give up hurtful words” and “hateful words”, and almost everyone in this country understood who he was speaking to. The Tedeum for a patriotic celebration could not escape Milei’s propensity for invective in the previous days. At times he seemed overwhelmed to excess, but also with a tired, numbing calm. On neither occasion was the expletive missing. The prelate’s remarks take place at moments that The Government negotiates a visit to Buenos Aires by Pope Leo XIV for the last months of the year. Milei had rated Franciscohis predecessor, from being a “representative of evil” on earth to promote social justice. Then he tried to temper his words. The eventual presence in Argentina of the current pontiff does not guarantee short circuits like the one at the Tedeum this Monday.
Before the archbishop’s wake-up call, the far-right was at the center of the social conversation due to the leaking of intimate audios of sexual content, with moments of profanity very similar to those of his public interventions. The moment of embarrassment was replaced by another when the anarcho-capitalist expressed his certainty that if aliens visited Argentina and they would like to know about its future they would come to the conclusion that it would become an economic power. And to certify it, he presented a map on the alleged economic growth in which several provinces were missing, absorbed by others in graphic design. Not only had the limits of cartography been moved, but also those of the language of the main executive authority.
According to an official measurement, GDP growth in 2025 by 4%. The IMF projects an increase this year of 5%. Financial intermediation, mining and agricultural activity They are the driving force behind this ascent that, according to Milei, would amaze Martians. The three activities not only generate little employment, but it is reduced in a country that since the libertarian has governed 24,000 small and medium-sized businesses closed, consumption and construction fall. A recent survey by Zentrix Consultora shows that 59.5% of those interviewed consider their economic situation bad. 70% of those interviewed disbelieve the official data on inflation, which is 40% annually. 64.4% of people reach at most until the 20th with their income. “The adjustment ceases to be a macroeconomic abstraction and becomes part of the daily administration of the home,” the report maintains.
The president’s emotions
The president is furious at the disclosure of these numbers. “Shitty journalists,” he repeats. “Now in his third year in office, the doubt about what is happening to Milei reveals a conflict that the red circle (the most powerful businessmen) is beginning to see as impossible to resolve,” said Gustavo González, columnist for the newspaper Profile. “In these sectors, concern is growing about how to reconcile the desired economic and political stability with the instability of those who govern. That the mental health of presidents is a taboo subject carries the certain risk that calling it into question would mean doubting the sanity of their government actions. But silencing the questions it raises may not be any less dangerous.” According to the magazine News, Mercy consumes zolpidem to fall asleep, a drug that can cause adverse effects such as feelings of instability, confusion and lethargy. The president himself admitted to having drunk between six and eight cans a day of an energy drink that is often questioned for its excess of caffeine and sugar. Different media report that he consumes them generally on sleepless nights, spending hours in front of the phone and, in particular, X.

The comments about Milei’s supposed emotional instability and the pronounced decline of his figure in opinion polls do not coincide with the management of the political agenda. Street protests do not corner him. The extreme right maintains its initiative in Congress without major impediments from the opposition. Beyond the questions related to Milei’s competitiveness in the 2027 presidential elections, the Government shows a strong will to control situations that may bother it beyond the constant complaints of corruption by its officials.
The president himself presented last Friday an artificial intelligence platform called “Social Digital Twin” with which it seeks to centralize state information. The announcement was released by the Ministry of Human Capital. The tool was presented as a system capable of “simulate scenarios, anticipate impacts and optimize decisions in real time” through the crossing of multiple databases. The initiative was immediately related to Palantir Technologies, the firm of tycoon Peter Thiel, who weeks ago visited Milei and has spent several weeks in this country to learn first-hand about the libertarian experience that provokes obvious sympathy in him. Palantir is known for developing intelligence and surveillance systems used by agencies such as the CIA, FBI, and NSA. It also collaborates in security and defense tasks in different countries.
