Senegal has fully entered a stage of political schizophrenia this Tuesday. The same party that has governed the country for two years, African Patriots of Senegal for Work, Ethics and Fraternity (Pastef), now plays the role of opposition in Parliament. This was announced by the former prime minister and leader of Pastef, Ousmane Sonko, but elected this Tuesday president of the National Assembly. In his first speech in office, he has advocated a stage of rigorous control over the Executive and the head of state. “We cannot allow there to be a hyper-presidential system in Senegal,” he stated.
