The economist Claudia Kemfert is calling for a so-called solar year for young people in Germany. In contrast to conscription and community service, which have been suspended in Germany since 2011, this service would be voluntary, writes Kemfert in a guest article chip.de. Kemfert envisions a year “in which young people will actively participate in the energy transition: in setting up solar systems, in energy cooperatives, in municipal climate projects or in schools, where they pass on their knowledge about energy and sustainability.”
