The former governors of Minas Gerais, (Novo) and Goiás, (), both pre-candidates for the Presidency, met this Tuesday (26) and discussed an alliance in the first round of the elections.
When discussing the meeting this Wednesday (27) in an interview with Nova Difusora radio, in São Paulo, Caiado was asked about the subject and about Zema’s willingness to make the alliance without abandoning the head of the ticket. “We talked, there is this feeling. And he is an open person. So we are just evaluating,” said Caiado.
Zema, during an event with financial market agents on Tuesday (26), kept the topic open. “Conversations always take place and, with all certainty, the outcome of this will be on the deadline. Because, in politics, it is at midnight on the deadline that things tend to be defined, unfortunately”, he said in reference to August 15th, the end of the deadline for registering tickets at the Electoral Court for the 2026 election.
In his interview, Caiado said that it was necessary to have humility to recognize that both his pre-campaign and Zema’s are at a level below that of President Lula (PT) and the senator (PL). “The moment we join our efforts a little, they [as pré-campanhas] they may only arrive strong in the second round or they may arrive competitive in the first round”, he stated.
Zema, on the other hand, stated that he “gets along well” with Caiado and, when asked if he would accept being vice-president on the ticket with the former governor of Goiás, he joked: “Couldn’t it be the other way around?”
The strategy would be justified to avoid a fragmentation of votes from the right and center-right after the slowdown in the electoral campaign of senator Flávio Bolsonaro ().
The Rio senator is involved in a scandal after the revelation of audios in which he asks for money from , owner of , to produce the film “”, which tells the story of (PL). The former president’s son also visited the former banker when he was under house arrest.
According to a Datafolha survey released in May, after the scandal, Lula (40%) increased the difference between Flávio (31%) and Flávio (31%) in the first round simulation from 3 to 9 percentage points.
Zema repeated the criticisms he made of Flávio after the audios were released. “We were told months ago that he had no involvement [Flávio] with the thug banker [Vorcaro] Who was betrayed? Us or them? It seems like us,” he said.
He stated that he was “really outraged” and that whoever voted for Flávio would be “handing the election to Lula, since his rejection was greater than that of the president.” The former president’s son scored 46% and surpassed the PT member (47%) among voters who said they would not vote for any of the candidates asked.
Even so, the former Minas Gerais governor said he would support Flávio in a second round against a left-wing candidate. According to Zema, combating this political spectrum is his “great objective”.
The pre-candidate also once again criticized the social program: “What about 20, 30-year-old grown men receiving Bolsa Família and supplementing this Bolsa Família with occasional odd jobs, it’s not written”, he states. The theme is recurrent in the minister’s speeches and I already talk about Social Development.
