Cláudio Castro gives up his pre-candidacy for the Senate

Former governor of RJ says he will dedicate himself to legal defense and his family after being the target of two PF operations in 15 days

Former governor of Rio de Janeiro (PL) this Thursday (May 28, 2026), the withdrawal of the pre-candidacy for the Senate. In a video published on his official profile on X, Castro stated that he will dedicate himself to legal defense and family care.

The politician was the target of two operations by within a period of 15 days. The 1st was on May 15th, the corporation favoring the interests of Ricardo Magro and the Refit conglomerate. The 2nd was this Tuesday (May 26th) and investigates possible financial crimes involving the pension fund for public employees of the State of Rio de Janeiro.

“My family is going through moments that I never imagined they would go through. Days of pain, of exposure, of lies, of narratives — much worse than lies is the half-truth. Which turns correct acts into attempts to criminalize what was correct”said Castro.

The politician added that he needs time to take care of his wife, children and those close to him who accompanied him during his political career. Castro highlighted that during “pre-election times”reputations “are destroyed”.

Regarding the investigations, the former governor stated that by next Tuesday (June 2) he will present a “robust petition” which will explain the “facts that happened” and the role of a governor.

The PL confirmed that it has already received Castro’s decision, who, in turn, states that his political life is not over.
