Consumers across the country will be able to save this Thursday (28) during the , a national campaign that brings together thousands of companies willing to sell products and services without passing on the tax burden.
In some cases, discounts can reach 70%, depending on the segment and the incidence of taxes on the items sold.
The initiative is promoted by the CNDL (National Confederation of Retail Managers) and CDL Jovem (Chamber of Young Retail Managers), with the aim of raising awareness among the population about the weight of the tax burden on consumption and defending a simpler, more efficient and balanced tax system.
This year’s mobilization should bring together tens of thousands of establishments in more than a thousand Brazilian cities.
Street stores, shopping centers, gas stations, restaurants and service providers who voluntarily joined the movement participate in the campaign.
Each company applies discounts proportional to the taxes levied on the products or services offered, allowing consumers to see, in practice, the impact of taxes on prices.
The 2026 edition takes place amid debates on tax simplification and during the tax reform transition period.
For CNDL, the action also seeks to draw attention to the competitiveness of Brazilian companies.
According to the president of CNDL, José César da Costa, Tax Free Day has become the largest national awareness campaign about taxes embedded in consumer goods.
“Brazil needs a fairer tax collection system, which reduces social inequalities and stimulates economic development,” he stated.
The national coordinator of CDL Jovem, Raphael Paganini, highlighted the educational nature of the campaign. According to him, the initiative helps consumers understand how much of the amounts paid daily corresponds to the tax burden.
“It is a day when stores and consumers come together to show governments that the tax burden and fiscal bureaucracy penalize consumption and hinder the growth of companies”, declared Paganini.
