Investigation investigates possible diversion of contract resources worth R$ 108 million from the Wi-Fi Livre SP program, in São Paulo
The São Paulo Civil Police requested access to financial reports from the Court and communications of operations considered suspicious involving Karina Ferreira da Gama, responsible for the production company linked to the film Dark Horse. The measure is part of an investigation that investigates possible irregularities in a R$108 million contract signed between the Instituto Saber Brasil and the City of São Paulo for the implementation of free internet services through the Wi-Fi Livre SP program.
According to researchers, the objective is identify any atypical financial transactions and check for possible asset confusion between the institute and the production company responsible for the feature film. The police are also investigating the hypothesis that public resources linked to the contract may have been used in activities related to film production.
The request is under analysis by the Regional Guarantees Court of the São Paulo Court of Justice. To date, there has been no decision authorizing access to data or conclusion on the existence of irregularities.
In a note, the São Paulo City Hall reported that it did not identify any irregularities in the execution of the services provided by Instituto Saber Brasil until now. The municipal administration added that it will take appropriate measures if any problems are detected.
Karina Ferreira da Gama did not comment on the request for access to financial data. Regarding the contract signed with the City of São Paulo, however, he stated that the process occurred regularly and that there is no connection between the resources allocated to the Wi-Fi Livre SP program and the production of the Dark Horse film.
The investigation is also monitored by the Public Ministry and seeks to clarify the allocation of public resources linked to the connectivity program in the capital of São Paulo.
