The Dutchman’s departure follows the farewells of his idol Mohamed Salah and full-back Andy Robertson
This Saturday morning (30), the Liverpool announced the dismissal of coach Arne Slot, after two seasons at the helm of the team. The coach’s departure is part of the team’s reformulation and other names left Anfield recently, such as idol Mohamed Salah and full-back Andy Robertson.
With a below-expected campaign in the Premier League and early exits in the national cups, Slot’s performance was questioned within the club. In the Champions League, the team reached the quarter-finals, but ended up being eliminated by Paris Saint-Germain-FRA with two defeats in two games.
“The conclusion we reached is based on the belief that the team’s trajectory requires a change of direction. This does not diminish the work that Arne did here, nor the respect we have for him. Nor is it a reflection of his talents”, says the club in an official statement.
In his first season at the club, the Dutchman had more success as coach and lifted the Premier League with a ten-point difference over second-placed Arsenal. For comparison purposes, it took German idol Jürgen Klopp five seasons to win the competition.
“Arne leaves with our gratitude, with a Premier League title to his name and knowing that he and his family will always be welcome back at Anfield.”
Now, untilendence is a big change in the cast and some departures are confirmedlike Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson. Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson is tipped to leave the team, but a stay is not ruled out and his reserve, Giorgi Mamardashvili, is in the sights of other clubs.
For technical command, the European press points to the Spaniard Andoni Iraola as favorite to take over Liverpool. At 43 years old, he had good spells at Rayo Vallecano-ESP and Bournemouth. For the English team this season, he achieved 6th place in the Premier League and won a place in the Europa League.
