Milo Rau on Thiel’s rejection: “I thought it was relevant to democratic policy”


The debate kept the Wiener Festwochen in the headlines for a whole week: Would the most influential tech billionaire on the American right, Peter Thiel, actually come to Vienna for a debate? Or would the headwind against the project become so great that it would have to be canceled? Since Saturday evening it has been clear: it was the latter. Much to the dismay of festival director Milo Rau. In the STANDARD he explains the background to the rejection, why he finds it important as a leftist to debate with people like Thiel and what he would have asked him.
