Recently, there have been significant changes on television screens. Things are really boiling behind the scenes of some Slovak television stations. Several presenters have announced their retirement from television screens. Now the presenter Nikola Detáriová from TA3 television has joined her colleagues.
She announced her departure after seven years on the social network. “After a series of interviews and topics in which I asked politicians critical questions, I gradually began to feel that my space in political broadcasting was narrowing. First, I was told that the show I moderated for Pravda was on hiatus. But she never continued. Why do I mention Pravda? Ta3 and Pravda have been decided by the same people for some time,” she said at the beginning.
There were other restrictions. “Later, another change came – I no longer even moderated the political discussion show on ta3 – Tema. Officially, it was dramaturgical and programmatic changes. In practice, this meant that the show continued (without change), all the presenters remained, only without me“, she explained the details.
He wants to keep some things to himself. “I don’t want to talk about the backstage or publish internal information, not least because of the obligation to maintain confidentiality. However, the fact is that after a period of more intense political conversations, my space on television, as far as politics is concerned, completely disappeared over time. And not by my decision“, she admitted.
Detário decided to take a drastic step. “I don’t see it as one specific decision or one moment, rather as a longer-term development, after which I came to the conclusion that it’s time to move on. The atmosphere around the media is changing noticeably in Slovakia, and more and more journalists are talking about growing political pressure or indirectly creating an uncomfortable environment for critical issues“, she continued.
She could not continue to work in such an environment. “I always tried to conduct interviews in a fair, professional manner, regardless of who was sitting across from me. They didn’t fire me, but there was no need for more signals to go. I was told to go if I wanted to. So I’m going. It’s time to stand up for yourself” added the presenter at the end.
