Organization was the topic of a meeting with Wang Wentao in Beijing; chancellor had two other meetings this Monday (June 1st)
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, met this Monday (June 1, 2026) with the Minister of Commerce of China, Wang Wentao, in Beijing. One of the issues discussed was a reform of the (World Trade Organization).
The global organization has lost strength in recent years, mainly due to unilateral actions by the United States, such as the application of tariffs against other countries, which has bothered China, which always reinforces its support for global institutions. The Asian country has also resorted to the WTO in trade disputes with European countries.
The reform of global organizations is also an agenda defended by the president (PT). In several speeches, the PT member has already advocated for profound changes in bodies such as the UN Security Council (United Nations). These are topics on which the two countries converge, but on which there has not yet been any concrete diplomatic progress.
In addition to Wentao, another trade sector official who was present at Vieira’s meetings in Beijing was Li Chenggang, China’s main international trade negotiator.
There were at least 3 meetings with high-ranking Chinese members during the visit to the country. Before the meeting with the Chinese Minister of Commerce, Vieira met with the Chinese Vice President, Han Zheng. In the afternoon, local time, he met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
It was the last event on the minister’s agenda. The delegations met in a hall with brief press access. Afterwards, the chancellors had a private meeting that lasted around 20 minutes.
