Collision occurred on GO-518, in Buriti de Goiás; eight other people were injured and taken to health units
Five students of the State College of the Military Police of Goiás (CEPMG) January 5th died in a accident between a school van and a trailer on Monday night (1st), on the state highway GO-518. The rear-end collision took place in the rural area of Buriti de Goiás, involving the vehicle transporting students and a truck loaded with cattle.
According to the Goiás Military Fire Department (CBMGO), the van was carrying 13 people at the time of impact. Eight victims were rescued by SAMU teams from Buriti de Goiás and Sanclerlândia and taken to hospitals in the region before firefighters arrived. The five occupants who died were found attached to vehicle hardware.
The rescue teams were called in at around 6:50 pm, following a request from the Military Police. The firefighters isolated the area and awaited the conclusion of the investigation by the Scientific Police to begin extricating the fatal victims, using specialized vehicle rescue equipment.
The rescue operation ended at 1:19 am this Tuesday (2). The bodies were removed and sent to the Legal Medical Institute (IML) of São Luís de Montes Belos. In total, six military firefighters and three vehicles responded to the incident.
