Caiado says that Silvio Santos’ daughter is a strong name for vice in the race for President

Former governor of Goiás Ronaldo Caiado (PSD), pre-candidate for the Presidency of the Republic, stated that presenter Silvia Abravanel, daughter of Silvio Santos, is a “strong name” to run as vice-president on his eventual ticket in the race for Palácio do Planalto. Silvia joined the PSD in March to run as federal deputy for São Paulo. Last week, the party’s president, Gilberto Kassab, made himself available to “accept any collective decision” about also entering the dispute alongside Caiado.

— Without a doubt, it’s a strong name. She is a woman who has the ability to speak to millions of Brazilians, with a television program, and this makes her a federal deputy (who will be) elected — said Caiado, this Monday, during a press conference in Belo Horizonte, as reported by Valor Econômico.

The Goian declared that the matter will be discussed at a party meeting that will take place next Monday (8), in São Paulo. The possibility of Kassab entering as vice-president is under discussion, according to Caiado, who also denied the possibility of abandoning the race to run against former governor Romeu Zema (Novo):

— This issue (being vice Zema) was not addressed in any way — stated Caiado, who highlighted that the last meeting between them served to focus on right-wing unity. — If we start to disperse, we won’t have good results in the second round. We have to reach a level of peaceful and harmonious coexistence between us — he added.

Vice open

Last Saturday, the 30th, Kassab released a public note in which he suggested that he could accept being a candidate for vice president on Caiado’s ticket:

“Even though I have already stated that a pure ticket candidacy could be a concrete hypothesis, I understand that many steps and understandings need to be completed, inside and outside our party, until a decision is made about the profile of our ticket,” he wrote.

The party leader also said that “as president and member of the PSDB, I make myself available to listen and accept any collective decision, knowing in advance that it will be the best for the future of our project”.

Before that, last Tuesday (26), during an event with investors in São Paulo, Zema said that he did not rule out the possibility of building an alliance with Caiado. The former governor said that both get along well and that Minas Gerais and Goiás are “almost twin” states.
