Trump nominates president of the Florida House of Representatives to be ambassador to Brazil

Daniel Perez should fill the position that has been vacant since January 2025

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, sent this Monday (1st) to the American Senate the name chosen to be the next US ambassador to Brazil. Florida State Representative Daniel Perez was nominated for the vacancy, whichhad been without a representative since January 2025, at the end of the Joe Biden government.

Perez is the current speaker of the Florida House of Representatives. He was elected as state representative, a position equivalent to that of state deputy, in 2017, and is lawyer and son of Cuban immigrants.

Elizabet Bagley held the position until the end of the Biden administration, and left office during the transition to the Trump administration. The Brazilian government also needs to accept the nomination. Until now, the person responsible for relations with Brazil was Gabriel Escobar, charge d’affaires.
