The President of the United States, Donald Trump, signed this Tuesday, 2, an executive order to promote innovation and security in advanced artificial intelligence (AI). The measure requires the Defense and Treasury departments to prioritize the cyber defense of national security systems.
“The United States continues to lead the world in AI because of the enormous talent and innovation in our industry and because we refuse to stifle that innovation with overly burdensome regulations,” Trump said.
The federal government will also have access to frontier models – considered highly advanced and large-scale AI models – in advance, aiming for secure innovation and strengthening the cybersecurity of critical infrastructure, the White House said.
“It is U.S. policy to promote AI innovation and security by working collaboratively with the private sector to modernize information systems and strengthen them against external threats,” the order added.
