The federal government imposed secrecy for up to 100 years on processes involving authorization for the operation of betting houses, known as bets. The information was confirmed by the newspaper O State of S. Paulo after having a request, made through the Access to Information Law (LAI), denied.
According to the publication, 1xBet operated illegally in Brazil before receiving authorization to operate in the country, in June last year. The company’s place of operation would also no longer be as reported to the Federal Revenue Service, according to the investigation.
In refusing the request regarding the document that authorizes bet’s operation in the country, the Ministry of Finance argued that the documents are protected by secrecy to protect the personal data of partners, administrators and other beneficiaries involved in the documentation.
The 100-year interval is provided for in one of the provisions that regulate access to information through LAI requests.
Despite the newspaper’s request requesting documents with the confidential parts blurred, the Treasury reiterated its denial and declared that the analysis of each document would require “a disproportionate administrative effort”, causing “operational limitations aggravated by the severe restriction of the workforce”.
