Would you like balconies full of healthy, lushly blooming geraniums? Forget about expensive fertilizers, because ordinary yeast from the store works as a natural stimulator, which in a few days will strengthen the roots and start the formation of giant inflorescences. It takes five minutes to prepare and the result will amaze you.
Balconies and windowsills decorated with a flood of colorful flowers are the pride of every passionate grower and his home. However, in order for geraniums to be bubbling with health and form new buds all summer long, they need a generous portion of the right nutrients during the growing season. As is often the case, we don’t have to look for the most effective solution in specialized stores, but right at home in our kitchen counter. Ordinary dry yeast, which we normally use to bake fluffy buns, works as an extremely strong natural stimulator of growth and flowering.
In the following YouTube video, Honzík Lací advises how to properly grow geraniums:
Yeast helps break down organic matter
The effect of baker’s yeast does not lie in the fact that it contains rich doses of minerals per se, but in its unique biological composition. These are living single-celled mushrooms that are literally packed with B vitamins and valuable phyto-vormons. As soon as this yeast gets into the box, it immediately awakens useful soil bacteria to life and unexpectedly accelerates the decomposition of organic matter in the substrate. This process immediately releases large amounts of nitrogen and phosphorus into the soil, which would otherwise remain completely unavailable to plant roots.
You will see the change almost immediately
A regular intake of the yeast cocktail will literally affect the health and appearance of the geraniums within a few days. The root system of pelargoniums will begin to rot heavily under the influence of microorganisms, and this will logically allow the plant to absorb moisture and all nutrients from the ground much more effectively. Strong and rich roots are the basis for the growth of strong stems with dark green leaves, which are much better able to withstand summer weather fluctuations and the attacks of small sucking pests. In addition, June watering with such a solution will ensure that the plant stops investing energy only in green matter and directs all its power to the formation of giant inflorescences.
One teaspoon per liter of water
The preparation of this homemade miracle is extremely easy and takes barely five minutes of your time. Just take one full and mix it thoroughly in one liter of lukewarm water, to which you add a pinch of sugar, so that the yeast “wakes up” faster. Let this concentrated solution work for about two hours in a warm place and then dilute it with clean, settled water in a ratio of one to five. Then water the geraniums with the resulting liquid directly at the roots, ideally in the early evening, when the direct sun is no longer roasting the boxes, which could destroy the sensitive microorganisms.
It’s about the right frequency
In order for this natural treatment to be as successful as possible, it is necessary to observe the correct frequency and remember the natural needs of the plants. Give pelargoniums a yeast fertilizer about once every two to three weeks, which is plenty to keep them blooming continuously. Since the yeast consumes potassium and calcium from the substrate during their activity, it is recommended to combine this dressing with ordinary wood ash or mixed eggshells, which immediately return these minerals to the ground. Try it and you will see that your windows will be the center of attention of the whole neighborhood all summer long.
