Chilling words from Tehran: Any shipping through the Strait of Hormuz will be the target of an attack! What does this mean for Europe?

Iran has declared that any ship passing through the Strait of Hormuz will be considered a target for attack. The Mehr agency said the military command had ordered the strait to be completely closed to all vessels, including oil tankers and merchant ships. Thus, Tehran responded to the latest attacks by the United States. However, the US military has denied Iran’s claims of closing Hormuz. TASR informs about it according to the reports of the AFP agency and the al-Jazeera station.

  • Iran has identified all ships in the Strait of Hormuz as legitimate targets for attacks.
  • The Iranian command announced the complete closure of the Strait of Hormuz for all vessels.
  • The Revolutionary Guards admitted the attack on two ships while trying to cross Hormuz illegally.
  • The United States has denied closing the strait and reports continued commercial shipping.
  • The US military attacked several targets in Iran with Tomahawk missiles.

“Any shipping through the Strait of Hormuz will be targeted,” Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Command said, according to the Tasnim news agency, adding that the strait is now “completely closed to all types of vessels”. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, quoted by IRIB state television and Mehr agency, reported that “two ships that tried to illegally pass through the Strait of Hormuz were hit”.

The Iranian military also said that the closure of the strait was prompted by the changed security situation after the latest US attacks, wrote the DPA agency. The US military later denied Tehran’s claim that Hormuz was completely closed. “TRUTH: Merchant ships continue to transit in and out of the Strait of Hormuz this evening,” written by the US Army’s Central Command (CENTCOM) on the X network.

The US military announced shortly before midnight CEST that in the latest escalation of tensions, they strike “multiple targets” on Iranian territory. The attacks came after they were announced by US President Donald Trump and later by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

Iranian media reported explosions in the south of the country near the Strait of Hormuz and west of Tehran. Air defense systems were activated in several places. Fox New TV, citing Trump’s words, reported that the US military used 49 Tomahawk missiles in the latest attack, while several of them hit targets only a few tens of kilometers from the Iranian capital.
