The second round of Peru’s presidential elections is decided vote by vote. With 97.8% counted, the leftist, 57 years old, remains in front of the official ONPE count with 50.01% of the votes, just 8,300 votes more than the rightist, 51 years old. The Fuerza Popular candidate, who initially led the count thanks to the votes from the capital, Lima, once again closes the gap thanks to the vote of Peruvians residing abroad, where she obtains two out of every three ballots. Sánchez’s party has called for this Friday to demonstrate against an alleged “maneuver against the people and democracy.”
