The Athletic releases free content during the World Cup – 06/11/2026 – Sports

The Athletic, The New York Times’ sports journalism platform, will provide free access to World Cup coverage to anyone who downloads its app. The tournament starts this Thursday (11th), with the match between Mexico and South Africa, at 4pm, and ends on July 19th.

During the period, the vehicle will offer real-time updates on matches, exclusive reports and special content about the tournament. To access, you need to download the newspaper app via the Google Play Store (Android) or the App Store (iPhone).

According to the newspaper, the initiative seeks to expand access to the competition “at a time when the tournament has proven to be inaccessible for many fans due to the high costs of transport, tickets and other expenses”.

The Athletic will have a team of more than 70 journalists to cover the World Cup.

Among the highlights are a series of reports on the culture and traditions of fans of the 48 participating teams and a video production with personalities passionate about football, such as actors Wagner Moura and Brian Cox.
