On a popular beach in Sydney, Australia, a woman was attacked by a shark on Saturday. Police said the woman was airlifted to a nearby hospital in critical condition. TASR informs about it according to the reports of the agencies DPA and AFP.
“The woman (in her 30s) was pulled out of the water by passers-by, who gave her first aid before the rescue services arrived,” the police said. She added that the woman suffered serious injuries to her arms and legs.
Closed beach
The attack took place on Coogee Beach, which along with others along Sydney’s east coast was closed as a precaution.
There have been a total of four fatal shark attacks in Australia this year. According to a database of encounters between these predators and humans, there have been almost 1,300 incidents involving sharks in Australia since 1791, more than 260 of which resulted in death.
New migration routes
Australian scientists believe that increasingly crowded waters and rising ocean temperatures are changing shark migration routes, which may be contributing to an increase in such attacks.
