Algarve gains momentum with June holidays and hotels close to full capacity

Hotel occupancy in the Algarve will be around 80% during the mini-holidays provided by the June holidays, with a slight increase in demand compared to last year, sector sources told Lusa this Tuesday.

Speaking to Lusa, the president of the Association of Hotels and Tourist Enterprises of the Algarve (), Hélder Martins, told Lusa that the expectation was that occupancy in the region during the holiday period of June 4th and 10th would be around 80%.

“Our expectation is that this week of holidays we will exceed 80% occupancy, which is very good”, he stated, highlighting that the Portuguese market is what is contributing most to the results achieved by Algarve tourism at this time.

Those who chose to go to the region are also benefiting from a few days of warm weather and no rain, with the weather helping families enjoy their first days at the beach, noted the president of the Algarve business association. “For companies […]is to warm up the engines and, from now on, we enter a period of medium-high season here until we reach the high season. So, we are satisfied with the demand there was”, he concluded.

The president of Algarve Tourism also stated that the holidays contributed to a slight increase in Portuguese demand for the region, “although the levels remain” in line with those recorded last year.

Speaking to the Lusa agency, André Gomes highlighted that the Algarve continues to be “a destination of choice” for the domestic market during festive periods, reflected in a positive dynamic in tourist activity.

“Holidays are traditionally used by many Portuguese for short getaways and the Algarve continues to be one of the main choices,” he said. According to him, these periods also work as a “good indicator” for the behavior of demand during the high season.

“A positive high season” is coming

Despite the increase recorded in recent days, André Gomes pointed out that “the hoteliers’ report” points to a small increase in bookings from the domestic market, “although without significant variations in relation to the tourist occupancy of the previous year”.

The president of the Algarve Tourism Region (RTA) highlighted, however, that the verified performance “reinforces the sector’s confidence for the coming months”, at a time when the region is still preparing for the peak in tourist demand.

“We are talking about a consolidated destination like the Algarve, which has maintained consistent levels of demand, particularly from the national market”, he stressed, pointing to the resilience of the destination.

According to him, current indicators allow us to foresee a positive peak season, similar to previous years, supported by both the domestic market and international demand.

“This is what leads us to believe that, once again, the Algarve region will perform well in terms of tourist activity during the high season”, he said, expressing confidence about the evolution of demand in the coming months.
