The Attorney General of the Republic, , stated that the actions of criminal factions during the elections are among the authorities’ main concerns this year.
In an interview with EsferaCast, a videocast from Esfera Brasil, Gonet declared that he will prioritize combating the interference of these groups in the electoral process.
“An important factor is to prevent the intrusion of criminal factions and organizations into the electoral environment. We have to check where they happen, what the risks are and punish abuses of political and economic power, or situations such as a faction that does not allow candidates to enter public territory to campaign. This cannot happen,” he said.
He also defended the State’s action to prevent criminal organizations from creating obstacles to the functioning of institutions.
“The Brazilian State cannot coexist with parallel States, set up and directed by criminal organizations. And it must ensure that democratic mechanisms are effectively used and performed without the intrusion of the criminal factor”, he declared.
He also addressed the misuse of . “It will be case by case. We will have to have some abstract parameters and continue comparing cases with these parameters. Of course, when there is evidence of a deep fake, we will have to act immediately,” he said.
