A message from a member of parliament from Matovič’s movement Slovakia: In the coming months, coalition hell awaits us!

The approval of next year’s budget will be preceded by “coalition hell” full of arguments, chaos and blackmail. Július Jakab, a member of the National Council of the Slovak Republic for the Slovakian Movement, thinks so, who responded to the Sunday statements of the speakers in the televised debates and the video of the Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic, Robert Fico (Smer-SD).

  • Member of Parliament Július Jakab predicts a hell of coalition arguments when approving the budget.

He also focused on warning the President of the Slovak Republic, Petr Pellegrini, that the planned approval of the state budget will also affect the relations in the coalition and the ability of its members to seek consensus. Jakab thinks that the creation of the budget, in addition to the year in which the parliamentary elections are held, will intensify the current intra-coalition disputes.

“Everybody is already arguing there and now it will be complete chaos, everyone will just want to tear off some more piece of ‘zvanka’. It won’t be nice, but it won’t be beneficial for the people either,” said Jakab. The fact that drafting the budget will worsen coalition relations and enable mutual blackmail is also confirmed by the statements of the Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic, who criticized the Hlas-SD party in a video for “privatizing issues” and neglecting coalition partners. “This autumn, everyone will fight everyone, it will be one hell of a coalition, in which they will blackmail each other with the threat of the collapse of the coalition,” warned Jakab.

The opposition MP also criticized the attitude of the head of state towards the nominations of MPs Petr Kmec (Hlas-SD) and Miroslav Radačovský (unclassified). to the posts of ambassadors in Italy and Cyprus. According to him, Pellegrini ignores the fact that Kmec had to leave the post of deputy prime minister due to suspicions in the case of the sale of the area in Voderady. “Kmec and Radačovský will sign, he will sign everything that comes to him to sign,” declared Jakab about the head of state.

Veronika Remišová, the chairperson of the For the People party, joined the criticism in this context. According to her, the president cannot say as an alibi that if the ambassador fails, he can be recalled later. “If he knows today that the nomination is a shame, he shouldn’t wait until that shame happens abroad,” said Remišová.

The President of the Slovak Republic announced in a discussion on TV JOJ 24 that the appointment of ambassadors, among which are the nominations of Kmec and Radačovský, should come within the next week. In the case of Radačovský, he did not give a clear answer to the question of whether he would appoint him, but pointed out that he meets all the formal conditions, has political legitimacy and also received “agrément”, i.e. the approval of the Cypriot party. In the case of Kmec, he highlighted the credit he received in previous diplomatic missions. Pellegrini added that if it is proven that the ambassador is unable to perform his duties, he can be recalled.
