Høiby pleaded not guilty to the most serious charges he faced, including rape, although he admitted to some less serious offenses
The stepson of the Crown Prince of Norway was found guilty of two counts of rape, one count of domestic violence and other offenses, and was sentenced to four years in prison, an Oslo court ruled this Monday.
Marius Borg Høiby, 29, who joined the royal family when his mother, Mette-Marit, married Prince Haakon in 2001, was acquitted of two other rape charges.
Høiby has pleaded not guilty to the most serious charges he has faced, including rape, although he has admitted to some less serious offences. The defendant can appeal the decision.
Prosecutors had asked for a sentence of seven years and seven months in prison.
The trial, which lasted seven weeks, caught the attention of the Nordic country, revealing details about Høiby’s drug addiction, self-recorded videos of sexual encounters and more than 800 electronic messages presented as evidence. According to what was heard in court, one of the alleged rapes occurred in the basement of the crown prince’s family residence.
