Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit has received new lungs and is currently recovering from the procedure. The royal family announced this in a statement on Wednesday. As things stand, the operation was “successful,” explains cardiothoracic surgeon Arnt Fiane from the National Hospital in Oslo. The 52-year-old wife of Crown Prince Haakon, heir to the Norwegian throne, was diagnosed in 2018 with pulmonary fibrosis, a chronic disease that causes scarring in the lungs and results in reduced oxygen uptake.
