O Real Madrid announced, this Wednesday (17), the signing of Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva. The 31-year-old signed a contract two seasonsvalid until June 30, 2028, after ending his contract with Manchester City at the end of the last European season.
“Real Madrid CF and Bernardo Silva have reached an agreement for him to become a Real Madrid player for the next two seasons,” the club said in an official statement.
Bernardo Silva, who has 109 caps for Portugal, is currently focused on competing in his third World Cup. The midfielder is in the squad that debuts in the competition this Wednesday, in Houston, against the Democratic Republic of Congo, in a game valid for Group K.
For Manchester City, the club he has defended since 2017 after leaving Monaco, the athlete played 459 games and scored 76 goals. During this period, he won 20 titlesincluding six editions of the Premier League ea 2023 Champions Leaguethe year in which the English team won the triple crown. In France, Bernardo had already been national champion alongside Kylian Mbappé, his current teammate at Real Madrid.
The market movement comes after a season without significant titles for Real Madrid, which finished the Spanish Championship eight points behind Barcelona and fell in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. To reformulate the squad, president Florentino Pérez hired coach José Mourinho at the beginning of June.
In addition to Bernardo Silva, the club announced this week the ex-Chelsea, for around 55 million euros. Defender Antonio Rüdiger also renewed his contract with the club until 2027. Real Madrid remains interested in signing defender Ibrahima Konaté, from Liverpool, and full-back Denzel Dumfries, from Inter Milan.
