The Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement on Thursday night (18), in which it said that the Brazilian government received with “satisfaction” the agreement signed between the United States and Iran.
The document establishes the end of the conflict that began in February and provides critical measures for the economy and international security, such as the end of the blockade of Iranian ships and the suspension of sanctions.
In the note, Itamaraty, however, demanded that the two countries comply with the terms of the agreement and cease “hostilities on all fronts”.
“The Brazilian government welcomes the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Iran, which provides for the end of the conflict that began on 2/28 in the Middle East,” says the statement.
“Brazil urges the parties to strictly adhere to the agreed terms. It calls, in particular, for the complete cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including in Lebanon, as well as the maintenance of engagement in good faith negotiations and the strengthening of mutual trust, in order to ensure the finalization of a comprehensive peace agreement”, adds Brazilian diplomacy.
In the note, the Brazilian government also reaffirms that “diplomatic dialogue constitutes the only path to lasting stability and security in the Middle East.”
The agreement, already in force, between the USA and Iran was a central topic among the biggest global powers during a meeting of G7 leaders, who analyzed the implications of the rapprochement between Washington and Tehran for security and the global economy.
The developments surrounding the agreement directly impacted the oil market. The Brent barrel, a global reference, is being traded at US$77. WTI oil, traded in the United States, fell by almost 4%, reaching US$74 per barrel.
