Chief Raoni Metuktire, 94 years old, was transferred this Friday morning (19), from Hospital e Maternidade Dois Pinheiros, in Sinop (MT), to Hospital São Paulo, from the Escola Paulista de Medicina da Universidade Federal de São Paulo (Unifesp), in the south zone of the capital of São Paulo, where he will continue his medical treatment.
A The decision was made by the medical team after the indigenous leader’s clinical condition improved. The Mato Grosso government provided an aircraft to carry out the transfer.
In addition to an intensive care doctor and a nurse, Raoni was accompanied by two members of his family during the air travel. Throughout the journey, he remained lucid and oriented.
The transfer process also included the participation of Dr. Douglas Antônio Rodrigues, a doctor at the Unifesp Indigenous Peoples Health Clinic and responsible for monitoring Chief Raoni’s health for decades.

Despite the improvement, there is still no forecast for hospital discharge.
Severe clinical picture
O indigenous leader was admitted to hospital in Sinop, Mato Grossoon the afternoon of last Sunday (14) after being transferred by plane from the Peixoto de Azevedo region, where he lives.
He had episodes of vomiting and coughing on Saturday (13), but the condition worsened on Sunday, with “three new episodes of vomiting, associated with a persistent cough, abdominal pain and expectoration with a small amount of blood”, according to the hospital.
O initial bulletin classified the health condition as seriousrequiring uninterrupted monitoring by the medical team and admission to the ICU.
Last Wednesday (17), aemedical team reported that chief Raoni showed significant improvement in his health status and underwent endoscopy to assist in the diagnostic investigation. The procedure was uneventful.
