Some people don’t pay attention to them at all, others would always improve something, adjust it here, adjust it here, maybe readjust it a bit. The way do-it-yourselfers sometimes own them. According to the expert, neither is ideal. “Regularly give your doors basic care inside and out,” recommends Petr Renza from the Hörmann company, who has spent years installing and servicing them himself, so he knows what he’s talking about. And he adds when and how often to leave care to those who are precisely trained for it.

Don’t underestimate the foundation

It’s true that you don’t have to leave absolutely everything to the experts. Take care of basic cleaning yourself, roughly once every six months to a year. From the inside, wipe all the rails that are gradually covered with grease with a regular cloth, and then re-lubricate them.

It is best to treat the outside of the door with special products, the specific selection of which of course depends on the material of the door. “Wash them with soap and then, in most cases, polish with a sponge and the product intended for that purpose,” enumerates the expert. “Then you’ll see for yourself how the water just runs down them after the rain and it’s harder for all kinds of dirt to get caught on them.”

When to call in the experts

At the same time, Petr Renza says that you should definitely not engage in all kinds of adjustments yourself and definitely warns against interfering with the door structure. “Once every year or two, the door should be seen by an expert, preferably from an authorized service center,” he points out. “For doors that are connected to smart home systems or have other automation, they’ll tweak and fine-tune what’s needed, download updates. And get everything ready to run smoothly again.”
