Iran-US talks begin: Will Lebanon ceasefire and frozen Iranian assets be resolved?

Delegations from Iran, Qatar and the United States met in Switzerland on Sunday to discuss a ceasefire in Lebanon and frozen Iranian assets. This was reported by al-Jazeera and the AFP agency with reference to the Iranian state television IRIB, writes TASR.

“A tripartite meeting involving Iran, the United States and Qatar is currently taking place at the venue, focusing on the issues of a comprehensive ceasefire in Lebanon and the freezing of Iranian assets,” IRIB said in its report.

Al-Jazeera also confirmed the start of the negotiations, citing the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The department in its opinion expressed the hope “that these meetings will lead to the conclusion of a comprehensive and permanent agreement, which will deal with all the issues mentioned in the memorandum of understanding”.

The Qatari ministry also noted that will continue to work with Pakistan in mediation efforts and with “all interested parties to create a positive environment that will enable the negotiations to achieve their objectives, based on the firm belief that dialogue and diplomacy represent the optimal way to resolve conflicts and disputes”.

Earlier on Sunday, Iran announced that the main topic of his talks with the United States in Switzerland will be the ongoing conflict in Lebanon between Israel and the pro-Iranian Lebanese militant movement Hezbollah, as well as the issues of frozen Iranian finances and the sale of Iranian oil.
