NEW DELHI, Jun 22 (Reuters) – At least 15 people, most of them students, died in a fire that broke out on Monday at an animation training center in the northern Indian city of Lucknow, according to authorities.
The fire started in the Aliganj region, in Lucknow, the capital of India’s most populous state, Uttar Pradesh, according to local media.
News footage showed a group of uniformed men carrying bodies as a crowd gathered nearby.
Around 21 students were present when the fire broke out, police said, adding that two were seriously injured and four were in stable condition.
The center trained students to create animations, state deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak told reporters. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
A fire at a hotel in Delhi on June 3 killed more than 20 people, including about a dozen foreigners, raising concerns about fire safety standards in the capital.
