Uruguay e Cape Verde tied 2-2 this Sunday (21), by second round of Group H and 2026 World Cupin a hectic match in which the African team played on equal terms with “Celeste”, in Miami.
The Uruguayans thought they had already overcome the worst part after reacting to Cape Verde’s opening goal — a Kevin Pina’s masterful free kick (21′) — with goals from Maxi Araújo (44′) e Agustín Canobbio (45+6′).
However, a goal from the striker Hélio Varela (61′), after a defense and goalkeeper failure Uruguayan Fernando Muslera, kept Cape Verde’s hopes of advancing to the second phase alive in his World Cup debut.
Uruguay will face the leader Spain (4 points) on Friday (26), at 9pm (Brasília time), for the third round and the defeat will mean elimination. Cape Verde will face the Saudi Arabiaon the same day and time.
