An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.2 first struck the north of Venezuela on Thursday night. Less than a minute later, the second followed with a force of 7.5. The epicenter was located approximately 160 kilometers west of the metropolis of Caracas.
It was the strongest earthquake in Venezuela since 1900 and destroyed several buildings near the capital, AFP reported. At least 164 people lost their lives, almost 1000 others were injured.
