Hundreds of people in Venezuela were trapped under rubble and many others remain missing, after two powerful earthquakes devastated areas in and around the capital, Caracas, on Wednesday (24).
Hundreds of people died and many buildings were damaged, leaving thousands homeless.

Reuters news agency verified the location based on the shape of pools, buildings, trees, storage containers and the beach, which matched satellite and archival images.
A 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit a nearby region followed, less than a minute later, by a 7.5 magnitude tremor — the strongest since 1900, according to the USGS (US Geological Survey).
The disaster hit a country already weakened by years of economic turmoil, leaving much of its infrastructure vulnerable and complicating rescue efforts as seismic aftershocks shook the capital and neighboring coastal areas.
