The Australian Football Federation announced this Monday (29) that its team will host Brazil to play two friendlies after the 2026 World Cup.
The Socceroos, the nickname for the Australian team, will face those led by Carlo Ancelotti in Townsville, on September 25, and in Brisbane, four days later.
“Brazil is a world-class football nation and we are looking forward to facing them in Australia,” said Australia coach Tony Popovic.
“While my immediate focus remains firmly on our World Cup campaign, I am delighted that we are confirming friendlies of this caliber, as we want to consistently test ourselves against very high caliber opposition going forward,” he added.
Since the first confrontation between the two countries, in 1988, the two teams have faced each other 11 times, with 8 wins for Brazil, 2 draws and 1 win for Australia.
Still alive in the World Cup, Australia faces Egypt in the 32-team stage next Friday (3), at 3pm, in Dallas. In the first phase, they beat Turkey 2-0, lost to the USA by the same score and drew goalless with Paraguay. They ranked second in Group D, with 4 points.
Brazil faces Japan this Monday (29), at 2 pm, in Houston.
