The end of the school year is here, Minister Drucker sends a clear message: The report card is important, but it was never the whole story of a person

  • A report card never tells the whole story of a person or their potential, Minister Drucker said.
  • The functioning of schools depends on the work of teachers and all school employees.
  • The passage of seven school laws launched the biggest school reform in decades.
  • The reform is intended to improve the understanding of the curriculum, its applicability in life and children’s chances.

A report card is important, but it was never the whole story of a person. He stated this in a speech on the occasion of the end of the school year Minister of Education, Research, Development and Youth of the SR Tomáš Drucker (Voice-SD). At the same time he reminded that the school was never just about grades, but about the children who grow up in it, about the people who lead them, and about the future of Slovakia. He wished the students, but also the teachers and all the workers in education a peaceful, safe and nice summer.

According to Drucker, school is not a building behind a fence. “It is the place where the future of the country begins,” said the head of the Ministry of Education. The minister thanked the teachers, directors, educators, experts and all other school employees for their work and patience. He emphasized that without them the schools would not function.

“We have taken another important step in education. After passing seven school laws, we started the biggest reform in the last two decades. It’s not a change for one year. It is the way to ensure that a good school does not depend on where a child lives, what family he comes from or how lucky he is,” he said.

He pointed out that they want children to understand more about what they are learning, be able to apply it in life and have a better chance of succeeding. “We are strengthening aid directly in schools and modernizing education. Technologies are supposed to be good helpers, not masters of children. However, no reform lives only in a law or a document. You give it real meaning – through your work with children,” highlighted the Minister of Education. As he added, children will not remember the name of the reform, but the person who noticed it and gave them a second chance.

The minister thanked the parents and grandparents for supporting the children. He wished the children rest, new experiences, books, movement, a healthy return in September and a little less mobile phones. “I wish teachers and all school employees rest and time to gather strength. I wish parents and grandparents as many moments together as possible with their children,” concluded the Minister of Education.
