After criticizing Mendonça, Gilmar says that differences do not indicate ‘disunity’ in the STF

Minister Gilmar Mendes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), denied that there is “disunity” in the Court in relation to the Banco Master case. The speech was made this Tuesday, 30th – a week after he criticized the Master’s rapporteur, André Mendonça, on the program “Roda Viva”.

“Possible disagreements regarding the merits of a given procedural measure are not synonymous with the Court’s disunity in relation to the importance of the case and the observance of the fundamental rights of the people being investigated”, declared Gilmar, when taking stock of the activities of the Second Panel.

Last week, Gilmar said that there is an “impropriety” and a “gross error” in the report made by Mendonça that he was approached by a lawyer from Daniel Vorcaro with a proposal for “selective denunciation” in the case investigating Banco Master.

The minister also said that “I would like to reiterate the confidence” they have in the performance of Mendonça and the Second Panel. “Different views constitute unique opportunities to carry out the most complete judgment possible. They enrich the judicial activity, instead of diminishing it”, he stated.
