Koeman resigns after Holland’s elimination from the World Cup – 07/01/2026 – Sport

One day after the elimination of the Dutch team in the 32-team phase of the World Cup, coach Ronald Koeman announced his resignation this Tuesday (30).

“Last night I made the decision to end my time as coach of the Dutch national team,” Koeman wrote on his Instagram account.

The 63-year-old former defender has been in the position since 2023, after a first spell in charge of the ‘Orange’ from 2018 to 2020.

The Dutch team was eliminated from the World Cup after losing on penalties to Morocco (3-2), after a 1-1 draw in regulation time and extra time.

“We all dreamed of making history at the World Cup. That didn’t happen,” Koeman said in his message.

“Nobody is more disappointed than me. As the national coach, that responsibility falls on me.”

The Netherlands, three times world runner-up (1974, 1978 and 2010), arrived in North America as one of the candidates for the title.
