Austria once had an inheritance and gift tax- and it was neither abolished by a government nor by a parliamentary decision. Its end is a kind of political shield prank: In June 2007, the Constitutional Court declared the inheritance tax at the time as an equality because property was taxed too low due to the unit values that had not been adapted for decades compared to other assets. The supreme judges had no objection to inheritance tax itself.
