Senator Hamilton Mourão (Republicans-RS), vice president in the management of Jair Bolsonaro (PL), criticized the tariff announced by US President Donald Trump during a hearing of the Senate Foreign Commission on the subject on Tuesday, 15.
“I do not accept that Trump comes to put his bedelho in a case here that is our internal,” said the senator during a statement. “Is there an injustice being practiced against President Bolsonaro? There is an injustice being practiced. But it is up to us Brazilians to solve it.”
Even defending Jair Bolsonaro, accused of a coup attempt to stay in power after the 2022 elections, the senator criticized Trump’s announcement of 50% by Brazilian products. The US measure would be a possible response to the former president’s trial in the Supreme Court (STF).
“In the same way, dear colleagues, I do not accept that Macron, that Greta Thunberg, that Leonardo DiCaprio, come put their hands here in Brazil,” said Mourão.
At the meeting held this morning, the Foreign Relations Commission discussed Brazil’s strategy in the face of the import tariff imposed by the United States.
The hearing aimed to “provide a clear understanding of which measures are being taken and future prospects for affected sectors, especially agribusiness, which depends on the competitiveness in exports to maintain their economic health”, says the justification of the Senate application.

50% rates
The president of the United States announced last Wednesday, 9, 50% tariffs on products imported from Brazil, starting from 1st August. It is the highest rate released from letters sent by the Republican to countries since the beginning of the week.
The decision was justified mainly in response to Brazil’s treatment to former President Jair Bolsonaro and STF decisions against American technology companies.
“The way Brazil has treated former President Bolsonaro, a highly respected leader in the world, is an international misfortune,” said Trump. “This judgment should not be happening. It’s a witch hunt that should finish immediately!” He wrote.
