Airplane had taken off from São Luís and had Campinas as a destination; Federal Police was called
A blue plane with about 170 passengers had to make an emergency landing at Brasilia Airport (DF) on the night of this Thursday (07.ago.2025). According to the airline, the change in the flight route from São Luís (MA) to Campinas (SP) occurred due to a bomb threat on board.
The company reported that the procedure was adopted to ensure the safety of all and followed the guidelines planned for this type of occurrence. The landing took place at 8:45 pm, according to Inframerica, administrator of the terminal. The flight had taken place in the capital of Maranhão in the late afternoon and should arrive at Viracopos airport on the night of Thursday, if there were no deviations.
According to who had access to the notes released by Azul, Inframerica and PF (Federal Police), all passengers landed safely in the federal capital. After landing, the PF scanned on the plane to verify the possible existence of explosives and began investigation to identify the authorship of the threat. A volume considered suspicious, located in the plane’s load compartment, will be subjected to technical analysis to determine if it contains any kind of explosive artifact.
However, until the dawn of this Friday (08.ago.2025), there was no confirmation about the presence of any explosive artifact. Azul said it will offer all the necessary support to customers after the authorities’ release and stressed that such measures are indispensable for protecting passengers and crew.
Inframerica explained that the security protocol was activated as soon as it received communication about the case. The concessionaire, responsible for the operation and maintenance of the airport, said that only one of the tracks was used during the aircraft service, allowing landings and takeoffs to continue to occur. The other track had the operation suspended temporarily, without having relevant impacts on scheduled flights.
A day earlier, on Wednesday (6.ago), another Azul plane with one from Air France during a taxing procedure at Guarulhos Airport.
